History |
Since 2001 the Federal Ministry of Education and Research supports genome research in microorganisms within its GenoMik research initiatives. Three nationwide networks have been established in 2001: |
-
network "Genome research in pathogenic bacteria"; co-ordinator: Prof. Dr. Werner Goebel, Würzburg
-
network "Genome research on bacteria for the analysis of the biodiversity of bacteria and their use for the development of new production procedures"; co-ordinator: Prof. Dr. Gerhard Gottschalk, Göttingen
-
network"Genome research of bacteria relevant for agriculture, environmental protection and biotechnology"; co-ordinator: Prof. Dr. Alfred Pühler, Bielefeld
These three research networks were supported in a first funding period from 2001 to 2004 (GenoMik I), in a second period from 2004 bis 2006 (GenoMik II). The follow-up program GenoMik-Plus started in 2006 and ended in 2010. Again, three research networks have been funded:
- "PathoGenoMik-Plus", co-ordinator: Prof. Dr. Matthias Frosch, Würzburg
- "BiotechGenoMik-Plus", co-ordinator: Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Liebl, Göttingen
- "AgriUmweltGenoMik-Plus", co-ordinator: Prof. Dr. Alfred Pühler, Bielefeld
The international visibility and competitiveness of genome research in Germany has clearly been strengthened within the "GenoMik" and "GenoMik-Plus" funding initiatives. The new GenoMik-Transfer program clusters scientists from different german universities and research institutions in interdisciplinary research projects focusing on application oriented approaches.
